Dear Readers

I want to take this moment to apologize and explain.

After finally having my blog the way I want it, and finding the time to make posts just about everyday, a huge mistake has been made.

I wish I had never joined google+ along with everyone else.

I was invited to join, so I did. I then saw that it had imported some random photos. I had no idea why they were there. So naturally, thinking that I didn't want other people to see them on my profile, I deleted them. No confirmation, no "watch out, this is linked to your blog!" nada.

My images have been missing for a few days, and I wasn't sure why so I sought help in the google forums. I found that I was not alone in this and that there (supposedly) is no way to get my images back.

My heart is broken because a lot of these photos I don't have anymore. Going back in time to replace the images seems fruitless. I'm not sure what to do right now at this point. Any feedback? hints? tips? magical html knowledge?

hello my dear friend...i am so sorry to hear about this issue for you.

i showed this post to kevin and we've been chatting about the possibilities of what happened.

when you deleted the pictures, were you in picasa web albums? if not, where were you when you deleted the pictures?

my understanding is this: all pictures that you upload to your blogger blog live in the "cloud" of google -> these pictures are automatically stored via picasa web albums. for example, every single blogger profile picture that i have ever uploaded and used on my blog are stored in a picasa web album (not because i created one, but because that's where blogger automatically stores them).

what i think happens with google+ is that any publically shared photos (like the ones that 'live' on your blog) can be seen in your google profile. if you don't want them to be seen, then you have to set the privacy controls on the albums to reflect that.

the trick with this is that we are unsure of what happens on your blog if you set the pictures to private.

as far as the deleted stuff goes, if they are gone from the 'cloud' and not stored on your hard drive, i don't know if there's any way to get them back. :(

i'm really sorry if that's the case. i don't know if this helped at all, but i wanted to try anyway.

sending lots of love. xo

Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened. I almost did the exact same thing, I totally panicked when I saw all these photos from my old deleted blogs in my Google+...luckily I only deleted a few before I researched why they were there. I hope you can get them back somehow!

@Diane I had no idea about the cloud :( so as I would upload photos, of course I would just delete them (unless they were my own).

When I deleted them, I was in google+. I was making my profile and posting photos, and there were random photos that actually were not even on my blog (photos from highschool!) so I just deleted them. Apparently (and I haven't checked), google has fixed this by putting up a message saying if you delete your photos you are deleted the actual picasa album and everything it is connected to, ie blogger.

However, at the time, that wasn't there. I just didn't think anyone wanted to see these photos and I deleted them. Just like I would have on facebook. Then no confirmation. No "are you sure????" no "wait one minute, heidi. this is linked to your blog!" just *(poof)* and they were gone.

Thanks so much Diane, you are always helpful!

I think that this was somehow meant to be. I just have to figure out what to do now or what I should be doing now. Thankfully my actual blog photos, header and titles, are saved.

It's sad to see my journey from indie biz school up in smoke, but worse things have happened.

thank you guys so much for commenting on this. It really made me feel a lot better about a sad situation!

I'm going to have to figure out what to do about my past entries. Some of them are still there.

As for my blog throughout the future, I have learned my lesson to never delete anything hahaha

hey heidi!
i did a quick google search, and found some photos that were on your site, like your header and little pictures with "bury me in leaves" written on them when i looked up your site in cache links. i think there are sites that take shots of webpages, so you might want to do some research on that, because you might be able to find a screenshot of some of your photos that way.
